Honoring Our Seniors

Posted on May 29, 2009

Last evening was the annual Senior Citizen Tribute night in the main auditorium. This is the one event that the more mature members of our conference look forward to every year!

The evening kicked off with a very talented Bluegrass band, "Eric Davis and the Midnight Cry." They had the audience tapping their toes to uplifi ting music, composed by Eric Davis himself.

Then it was time for the big event, where Conference President Jim Davidson recognized the long-time followers of Christ in our midst.

First, he wanted to honor all who qualified for “senior” status, and had them stand to a round of applause from the audience. Next, they received a very nice red, white, and blue canvas tote from the Conference.

From there, Davidson decided to shoot high in his search for the oldest man and woman attending Camp Meeting this year, beginning with the age of 90. Across the auditorium men and women stood, but as the numbers got higher, more and more individuals sat down. Finally it was down to three men and one woman.

Davidson recognized Rosa Rowe, 96, of Hendersonville, NC, as the oldest woman in attendance. After presenting her with a beautiful corsage, Davidson moved on to narrow down the three men. The last one standing was Pastor Ben F. Hartman of Bryson City, NC, who will be 97-years-young on Friday.

God has used these individuals in their many years on this earth, and He defi nitely isn't fi nished with his plan for them. We applaud all of the seniors for their many years of faithful service to our Lord and Creator.
